Sunset in La Jolla

I love to watch the sun rising and setting. Have you ever thought about just
how amazing the sun is and praised God for His mighty act of creation?

Sunset in La Jolla

"The Mighty One, God the LORD,
Has spoken and called the earth
From the rising of the sun to its going down."

(Psalm 50:1)

Last week, before the Southern Baptist Convention began in Anaheim, California, Ashley and I traveled south to San Diego and then on to La Jolla. I think it is one of the prettiest places in America. It took some time before we could find a place to park to walk along the boardwalk and enjoy looking at the sunset. While visiting La Jolla years ago, Ashley and I were able to ride around the Torrey Pines Golf Course and take in the beauty firsthand. It is a great place to visit; however, it is one of the most expensive cities in the USA to live in. The cost of living is 147.5% of the national average. But it did not cost anything to drive there, park, walk, and take in the sunset.

When I did a Google search of La Jolla, this is what I found:

"La Jolla is a smart seaside area, known for its rugged coastline. Trails wind past pine trees and sandstone canyons in Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, while the two courses at world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course sit atop sea cliffs. La Jolla Cove has sweeping ocean views, and the Shell Beach tide pools are home to anemones and crabs. Posh boutiques and waterfront restaurants dot walkable La Jolla Village."

I love to watch the sun rising and setting. I am more a fan of the latter because I do not always get up at the crack of dawn! Have you ever thought about just how amazing the sun is and subsequently praised God for His mighty act of creation? The sun is precisely positioned by our great God so that it warms our planet just the right amount, enabling us to live. It is the centerpiece of our solar system, located 93 million miles from earth. If it were a little further, we would freeze. If it were a little closer, then we would be incinerated by the heat and radiation.

Either the sun and our solar system are an incredibly unlikely accident of random chance, or Almighty God created it. I certainly believe the latter. One must try hard to not believe in God when looking at a sunrise, a sunset, or a million other beautiful things, like a baby's eyes or an eagle flying in the air.

The next time you are up early enough to catch the sunrise or outside around sunset, take a minute to marvel at God's mighty wonder of creation, the sun. If you are ever near San Diego, take a drive to La Jolla, park your car, and head to the Pacific Ocean. You will see one of the most beautiful sights, not only in America, but in all the world!
