"Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness."
(Psalm 37:3)
Notice with me that King David gives four clear commands to the child of God in this one verse from Psalm 37.
We are to trust in the LORD. It is always great advice and wise on our part to trust God. No matter what comes our way, God is faithful; He can be trusted; He is worthy of us putting all our hope in Him.
Second, we are to do good. In hard times especially, it is more difficult to do good. But it is in those hard times that we can make our greatest contribution, because it will arise from faith and sheer obedience.
Next, we are to dwell in the land. We are to settle where God puts us. We can rest in Him and abide where He places our feet, where He allows us to lay our head.
Finally, in this same verse, David instructs us to feed on God's faithfulness. While writing this devotion, it occurred to me that I had never really noticed this before. Sure, I have read it before, because I have read through the Bible many times. But this part really jumped out to me recently. We can feast on God's faithfulness, because He is there for us. He sees. He knows. He cares. He will be there, come what may. So, do not just acknowledge God's faithfulness, but feed on it; allow His goodness to satisfy your soul in good times and bad. Great is the LORD's faithfulness to us!
Maverick City's song "Promises" contains a powerful message for followers of Jesus. It is a message about the faithfulness of God.
