"And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, 'These things says He who is holy, He who is true, He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens: I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.'"
(Revelation 3:7-8)
Throughout Scripture and history, we can see the miraculous work of God in the lives of ordinary people. We have been looking this week at some of the ways God blessed his servant Nehemiah. This cupbearer turned construction manager and governor knew the favor and goodness of God. God's hand was upon Him and guided him through the open door of ministry that no one could shut.
Speaking of the good hand of God, I am reminded of my friend Jessica Hermann's testimony. Jessica served on our staff at GHBC before she got married to Markus Hermann. Now they are living in Germany, serving on staff at a local church there. She said her dad was a deist, her mother a Wiccan, and her brother an atheist. She was an atheist, and she said, "I was that atheist that would debate and seek to tear down others' faith, and I was successful at it." When Jessica was 15 years old, some students at school invited her to church, so she was dead set on making fun of them and other Christians. She went to the church repeatedly because it was an opportunity to get out of the house, because her home was anything but a place of love and acceptance. She said that eventually, at one service, "I don't remember anything the preacher said, the music, or the people. All I remember was being at the front of the altar crying an ugly cry." Then she felt this hand upon her back. She said, "I couldn't remember anything but feeling unconditional and absolute love." She turned to see whose hand was on her back, and there was no human there. Jessica said that night, a lady explained the Gospel to her, and she was saved.
God is good when times are good and equally good when times are bad. God is good. He opens doors no one can shut, according to Revelation 3:7-8.
Do you need a miracle like Jessica did and like Nehemiah did? Do you need God to open doors and do mighty things through you? I do as well. God is the same today for you and me and Jessica as He was for Nehemiah and all the heroes of the faith. He will move in power and do miracles. Our role is to pray, wait, and be ready when God starts to make things happen.
I encourage you to dream big for the Lord's work in your life. May God accomplish great things in and through you for His eternal glory and for your blessing and good.
