The way of Jesus is the only way to true peace, joy, and abundant life. If we ignore Him, we do so to our detriment. Neglecting Christ and His message is comparable to a man building his physical house on sand.
Jesus closes His powerful Sermon on the Mount with these sobering teachings at the end of
Matthew 7: The same rain, floods, and winds come upon both houses. The difference is, one house stood and the other fell. One house was built on the rock, and the other was built on sand. The moral lesson and spiritual truth Jesus is communicating is, to hear is not enough—the key to having a firm foundation that will withstand the pressures that are surely to come is to obey Him.
I wish I could get to every person in time and let them know that your decision to embrace Jesus and His teachings (or not) will be the deciding factor on how you will weather the coming storms. The key is to make Jesus the Lord of your life, family, career, social life—yes, every facet of your life. Seek Him first, and then watch all the things He will add to you (
Matthew 6:33).
God's laws and principles are rock solid, and they will not and cannot be changed. We embrace them to our blessing or ignore them to our detriment.
In his book,
The Hope Quotient (p. 38-39), Pastor Ray Johnston states: "Hope Needs a Solid Foundation." He writes about the Chase Manhattan Bank building in Manhattan, NY. This is a massive sixty-story skyscraper. Halfway through construction, the builders discovered something most devastating: instead of building on a solid foundation of rock, they were building on not only sand, but also quicksand! If they did not remedy this problem the building would sink, topple, and be destroyed. Engineers were called in to look at ways to bolster the building or shore it up with pilings. Geologists told them it would take an incredibly long time for the quicksand to actually dry up and solidify. Then someone came up with an ingenious idea: to sink pipes deep within the quicksand and pump a solution of sodium silicate and calcium chloride into the shaky foundation upon which this massive building resided. In a few days, they discovered that the plan worked! The quicksand hardened and morphed into watertight sandstone, and as a result, they were able to complete the construction of the Chase Manhattan Bank. When they interjected the right additives and substances, everything was saved.
The same can be true for you and your foundation. I have seen this work and can guarantee its success; when you interject the teachings of Jesus into your life, marriage, home, business, team, church, etc. you will be blessed.
I have seen God do miracles in people's lives, marriages, and businesses. Is it easy? No. Will it take effort? Absolutely. Is it worth it? Indeed. If you think sodium silicate and calcium chloride are powerful, wait till you see what obeying Jesus and incorporating His spiritual disciplines will do for you!
