Blessed Holidays, Pt. 4

Blessed Holidays, Pt. 4

"And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."

(Matthew 7:27)

It is true in a sports team, business, staff, church, home, and a person's very life that you will only rise to the same level of strength as your foundation.

Some have cracks in their foundations, and it is only a matter of time until all comes crashing down. But it doesn't have to be this way. Truly, ignoring Jesus and His life and teachings are analogous to building on a poor foundation. But hearing and obeying Jesus is comparable to the wise man who built his house not on sand but upon solid rock.

This week in our devotions, we have noted the massive difference Jesus makes in our lives. Perhaps you were not raised in a godly home where your parents showed you and your siblings the blessed life of knowing and following Jesus. But you can start a new family tradition! You can start today building your life and family on the Person of Jesus Christ!

God's ways are not easy. His call to those who would know Him is a call to die to self, take up our cross, and follow Him (Mark 8:34). Psalm 127:1 states, "Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain."

I cannot stress this enough: JESUS IS THE SOLID ROCK UPON WHICH YOU CAN BUILD YOUR LIFE.

Jesus is amazing. We celebrate His birth this time of year, but we worship Him daily because of Who He is: the Messiah Who has come to save the world! He speaks words of truth, and if we hear and obey, then we build on an indestructible foundation for our lives, both for now and for eternity.

Living the Christian life is not easy; rather, it is impossible to do in our own strength. But when we are willing and we attempt to serve God and live by Jesus’ teachings, then the Holy Spirit surely assists us and empowers us to do what we could never do on our own.

It has been a blessing to pray over some of our church members' homes and businesses. I prayed over Dr. Sam and Ruha's new home in Round Rock, TX, and later over his new dental practice. Dr. Sam told me they had not and would not spend the night in the new home until the pastor came and prayed over it!

These families and many others in our church are building on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ and His teachings, and it bodes incredibly well for them and their children.

Jesus did not say "whoever contemplates or thinks about My sayings," or "whoever strongly considers them." The blessings come to those who actually obey His teachings and put them into action. The road to good intentions leads nowhere, but the one who obeys Jesus Christ and seeks to live for Him is on the path of eternal life.
