"And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, 'Come over to Macedonia and help us.' Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them."
(Acts 16:9-10)
What a beautiful eastern European city Skopje is. It has massive monuments constructed in honor of well-known Macedonians. My three favorite monuments were of Philip of Macedonia (father of Alexander the Great), Alexander himself, and Mother Teresa, who, though Albanian, lived in Macedonia before moving to India.
On Saturday, we drove north to Kumanovo where we met with Pastor Saso Georgievski who has served at his church there for 20 years. They host a theological school that is training pastors to serve the churches in Macedonia. Saso is the director of the school. He received one of his degrees from the Osijek Evangelical Seminary in Croatia. He earned his master's degree at the secular university in Skopje. His thesis focused on the epistemological similarities and differences between Gregorius Palamas and Martin Luther. At the same school, Saso earned his PhD. The title of his dissertation was: "Human as a Religious Being: Philosophical and Christian Perspective."
Dr. Saso visited our church in Austin in 2022. Randy Fair brought him and shared with me that his church in Kumanovo needed to raise some money to help them complete the construction of their new building. Our people at GHBC were so generous and gave him the money he needed to finish construction. It was an honor for me to preach in that church last Sunday! Here is a picture of the church and a picture of Saso and me:
