"The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever."
(Isaiah 40:8, CSB)
"Authority" by Elevation Worship is not a new song, but it is a great song nonetheless. Here is the chorus of the song:
One word from You
Things change on Your authority
Your word, it's true
Things change on Your authority
We sang this song a couple weeks ago at our church, and it has stuck with me since then. The thing that it keeps reminding me of is the power of God's Word, its longevity, and its absolute necessity in the Christian's life. Plain and simple: how much of the Word of God is in your life? I think if we were all honest with ourselves, we would all say that we could put MORE of God's Word in our lives, so let's try to figure out some things that will get God's Word in our lives more:
- Set a reminder to read God's Word.
- Read the daily verse from the Bible app.
- Put a Bible in a common place, and every time you pass it, read at least a little bit of it.
- Text a friend a Bible verse to encourage them.
- Text your family members a Bible verse to encourage them.
These are just a few examples of getting more of the Word of God in your everyday life. Why should we want that? Well, our verse for today says "the word of our God remains forever." If the Word of God remains forever and doesn't fade away, then we should be people of the Word, constantly in the Word.
From the song I shared with you, we are reminded that there is power in the Word of God and that "things change" when the Word of God is read and spoken. We also are reminded that if we are students of the Word of God, then we are becoming students of truth, because God's word is true.
Today, I encourage you to get into the Word of God!
