Pi Day

Pi Day

The Guinness world record for most decimal places of pi memorized belongs to Rajveer Meena who memorized 70,000 total digits of pi. Staggering.

Pi Day

"He counts the number of the stars; he gives names to all of them."

(Psalm 147:4, CSB)

Happy Pi Day! Today is 3.14, so that means it is Pi Day! If you are curious about what "pi" is, here's a smart definition: "pi is the ratio of the circumference of any circle to the diameter of that circle." Now, I don't really know what that means; all I know is that I had to use pi in math, and it was always crazy to me that pi never ends; the number just keeps going and going and going and going and... well, you get the point.

When I was looking into Pi Day, I came across a staggering record. The Guinness world record for most decimal places memorized belongs to Rajveer Meena who memorized 70,000 total digits of pi. That is INSANE to think that this dude memorized all those numbers of pi in the correct order!

Why bring up Pi Day? Well, as crazy as it is that Rajveer Meena memorized 70,000 numbers of pi and that the number really never ends, the love, care, and intentionality of the God with whom we have a relationship is even more! Our verse for the day says that God counts the number of the stars and gives a name to all of them. God knows every star that we can see and even the ones we cannot see... BY NAME. Another verse in scripture says that "the hairs of your head are all counted." This means that God knows the exact amount of hairs on each person's head, both living and dead.

These two verses alone make Rajveer's world record seem not that impressive compared to an all-knowing God who knows the number and name of all the stars and the number of hairs that are on every person's head. These two facets of God highlight not only the greatness and magnitude of His knowledge but also how personal He is, such that He wants to know every little thing about each and every one of us.

When I think about these two verses, I also think about Psalm 8:3-4, which says, "When I observe your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you set in place, what is a human being that you remember him, a son of man that you look after him?" When we think about all that God has done in the heavens, in the sky, and on this earth, it is amazing to think that God is mindful of us as humans. It is amazing that the all-powerful, all-knowing, holy, incredible God of the universe wants to know human beings in a personal and real way.

So this Pi Day, think about the truth that God knows you, loves you, and wants to have a growing, vibrant relationship with you. Let this truth be a reminder of God's faithfulness and love to you, but also let it drive you to tell someone about the love, care, and goodness that you have received from a holy God who knows the stars in the sky by name and the number of hairs on your head.

Happy Pi Day!
