"Now without faith it is impossible to please God, since the one who draws near to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him."
(Hebrews 11:6, CSB)
Our verse for the day comes from the famous passage Hebrews 11 - the Hall of Faith chapter in the Bible. This chapter is all about the feats of faith performed by various biblical characters. There are names like Abraham, Isaac, Moses, and David in the list. Our verse talks about something that is necessary to please God and something that these biblical heroes had: faith.
The best definition I have been given of faith is this one: faith is choosing to live as though God's Word is true regardless of circumstances, emotions, or cultural trends. Faith is believing God's Word to be true and living God's true Word out despite anything life throws out at you. This is exactly what the heroes of Hebrews 11 did, and this is exactly what you and I have to do every day to please our Heavenly Father. It is interesting to me that "by faith" is mentioned 22 times in Hebrews 11 alone. That is a lot of steps of faith that these men and women took for the Lord! Those 22 moments are the ones that are recorded, and I am sure that each of them took more than just that one step of faith in their lifetime.
Our lives are full of "by faith" moments. What will your "by faith" moments look like today? Maybe today you will "by faith" share the Gospel with your co-worker. Maybe today you will "by faith" help out a friend or stranger in a tight bind. Maybe today you will "by faith" have to forgive someone who wronged you. If without faith it is impossible to please God, then let us be people who are constantly living out our faith and constantly stepping out in faith.
Ask God to give you some "by faith" moments today, and confidently and humbly have that faith when your moment comes.
