"Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him."
(Proverbs 30:5)
This week, we have discussed how the Word of God is the primary anchor for our souls. We have gleaned many truths taught by Dr. Charles Stanley, pastor of the FBC Atlanta, GA, for 50 years. Before I close with more teaching from Stanley, I will share some personal words of encouragement. If you are going through a storm, God's Word is true and keeps us tethered to Him, and we are very secure.
Proverbs 30:5 says, "Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him." Satan will tempt you to be offended and become angry with God. Don't fall for it. Trust the Lord. Share your burdens with brothers and sisters in Christ so they can pray for you. Learn what God would have you to learn through it.
C.S. Lewis wrote The Problem of Pain on the topic of suffering, but when his wife Joy Davidman died, it took him to a new level of grief and heartache and tested his faith. He wrote about it in A Grief Observed. Perhaps that is where you are. If we live long enough, we all will be faced with dark nights of the soul and the temptation to despair. We live in a broken world. Jesus does not always prevent sorrow and suffering, but He walks with us through it, for He knows firsthand suffering on all levels. Hebrews 6:19 states, "This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil." Be strong in the Lord. He loves you, and He is with you.
Here are some closing words for you to take to heart from Charles Stanley, adapted from his study Bible called The Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible:
"Therefore, consider God's promises your spiritual anchors. Once you learn to follow Him, pursue His lead wherever He goes, because He never fails to keep His promises. Rather, He is teaching you to depend upon Him through meditating on His Word and listening for His voice.
"Are you willing to patiently wait for Him to fulfill everything He has promised you and rescue you as He did Daniel? Never try putting God on your time schedule. Instead, cling to Him, anchor your heart to His Word, and leave room for Him to bring everything together according to His plan and timing.
"You'll be glad you did."
