Principles to Live By: The Word of God is Our Anchor, Pt. 3

Principles to Live By: The Word of God is Our Anchor, Pt. 3

God is all-knowing, everywhere-present, and all-powerful. Jesus quieted a literal storm for His disciples. He can do that for the storms in your life too.

Principles to Live By: The Word of God is Our Anchor, Pt. 3

"The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever."

(Isaiah 40:8)

This week in our devotions, we are reflecting upon the third life principle taught by Pastor Charles Stanley: the Bible is the anchor for our souls. I am referencing much of what Stanley taught, and I am also sharing some of my own thoughts and convictions about how God's Word is indeed the anchor for our souls in times of storms. I love the song by Cody Barnes entitled, "Take You at Your Word". Take a moment and listen here:

Here are some of the lyrics:

You spoke and the chaos fell in line
Oh, I know 'cause I've seen it in my life
It's a narrow road that leads to life
But I wanna be on it, yeah
It's a narrow road and the tide is high
But You parted the water
I'll take You at Your word
If You said it, I'll believe it
I've seen how good it works
If You start it, You'll complete it
I'll take You at Your word
'Cause You're good on Your promise
Hey, oh, You're good on Your promise
Stanley asks, How does the anchor of Scripture help us? First, His Word comforts us. Psalm 57:1-3 states,

"Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me!
For my soul trusts in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,
Until these calamities have passed by.
I will cry out to God Most High,
To God who performs all things for me.
He shall send from heaven and save me;
He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah
God shall send forth His mercy and His truth."

One of the best places to start is the Psalms. Some of the Psalms are the results of God comforting and strengthening David when King Saul tried to kill him for 20 years. God is all-knowing, everywhere-present, and all-powerful. Stanley referenced the story of Jesus walking on the water and into the boat with the frightened disciples and telling the storm, "Shhh." He said God can do that for you too.

Do you believe God's Word? Will you trust Jesus today to step into your storm and quiet the raging storm inside of you? He can, and He will. Trust Him; take Him at His Word.
