"But as it is written: 'Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.'"
(1 Corinthians 2:9)
How are you doing in your waiting on God? Are you fully trusting in His grace to get you through? Are you tempted to manipulate circumstances? Are you growing more and more impatient? Are you living out the Frank Sinatra song, doing things your way? If so, then know there will be some pleasure in that choice, but ultimately it will lead to despair, not the peace that only God can give. There are two types of people in this world: those who tell God, "My will be done," and those who say to God, "Thy will be done."
Pastor Charles Stanley gives the following requirements to wait on God:
- Trust Him; have faith.
- Be patient; be willing to wait.
- Be humble. Say to the Lord that you will wait no matter how long it takes. People may criticize or laugh at you, but be humble, no matter how long it takes.
- Have courage when you do not see anything happening. Resist the temptation to go ahead and do it your way. Resist the pressure of people who tell you, "Do it now or lose!" Resist the fear of failure. Satan is in the middle of God's good things, and his intention is to corrupt and to pollute. We worry about what others think way too much. "We may get tired, but God does not get tired, and He gives the best, not sometimes, but every time."
Pastor Stanley closes his message with the following consequences when we do not wait and we step ahead of God:
- Disappointment.
- You step out of His will.
- You lose God's best. Why would anyone want His second-best? Trust Him for His best. He knows what you can and cannot handle.
- You bring on yourself pressure, hurt, and suffering.
- Other people get hurt.
Our willingness to wait reveals the value we place on the object we're waiting for. To love God is to trust and wait on God. Does it mean you get all you want? No, but when you wait on God, He will change your desires, and He will gently move you from what you desire to what He desires. When you get what He gives, it is what you really want.
May the Lord bless you and your loved ones with a happy and blessed Thanksgiving Holiday. If we can pray for you for any specific requests, please let us know at: pray@dfea.com
