"But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children."
(Galatians 4:4-5, NLT)
As many of you know, Kyndall and I have been in the adoption process for about a year and a half. Well, WE WERE MATCHED AND BROUGHT HOME OUR SON! His name is Tabor Lane Forshee, and we are just a little bit obsessed with him! I know my dad talked about this recently here in the devos, but I wanted to share with you a couple things that I have learned from adopting little Tabor Lane.
First off, let's talk about how we got Tabor. I won't give you allllllllll the details since June 1, 2022, but I will pick up on September 12, 2023. At 9:30 p.m., Kyndall and I got a phone call that told us we were matched with a little baby boy in South Dakota... who was already born and ready for his forever family! Kyndall and I began frantically packing. We could not believe that this was happening. We packed up the car, hit the road at 5:30 a.m., and began our trek to the beautiful state of South Dakota. We got to South Dakota on Wednesday night. There we met Tabor, his birth Mom, and his birth Grandma. We spent some time with our new sweet additions to our family and then got some sleep in our own hospital room. Tabor spent a little time with us and a little time with his birth mom that night. Then, the next morning, we walked out of the hospital with Tabor in his car seat and new titles for Kyndall and me: parents of Tabor Lane!
To wrap up a story that could be much, much longer, we stayed in South Dakota for a few more days and then headed back to Arkansas. When we got to Arkansas, we found out that everything that needed to happen legally in South Dakota had already happened, and Tabor was officially ours! To say that the past few months have been a little crazy is quite an understatement! Holding Tabor in my arms and watching Kyndall hold Tabor in her arms is the answer to SO many prayers, and even prayers some of you have prayed for us. (Thank you so much!) As I gaze at this little guy, my mind and heart have a newfound love and thankfulness for verses like Galatians 4:4-5.
If you have not had a chance to read today's verses, I would encourage you to do so! They talk about how God has adopted us into His family. Think about this statement: God adopted you. God, in all His goodness, wisdom, love, mercy, justice, holiness, and many other adjectives that could fill up many devotionals, chose you and has adopted you into His family because of the finished work of Jesus on the cross.
God loves you as His son or daughter, and tomorrow we will look at the great lengths to which God went to adopt you. But for today, meditate on the truth that God adopted you into his family. What emotions and thoughts come into your mind when you hear that statement? I know thinking about that statement now, in light of everything that has happened, my mind goes to thankfulness and speechlessness. I am so thankful for a loving Heavenly Father and speechless in knowing that I have done nothing to deserve to be in God's family but still am a part of it because of my relationship with Jesus.
As you go throughout today, think about this, follower of Jesus: God adopted you!
