Adore!

Adore!

God has created us for Himself. We are to love God supremely, worship Him, and adore Him. This gives God praise and helps us fulfill our purpose.

Adore!

"Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things."

(1 Chronicles 29:11, NLT)

Merry Christmas! I hope you and your loved ones enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Day. Ashley and I enjoyed having all our immediate family together. Due to scheduling conflicts, we ended up celebrating Christmas on Wednesday night at our home here in Liberty Hill, TX. It was so fun having all three of our children, their spouses, and our wonderful grandchildren in the house to celebrate. As always, I read the Christmas story in Luke 2:1-20, and then we opened presents. Next, we continued with a new Christmas tradition that Ashley and I started two years ago. We dress up like famous characters and play a game with our children for prizes. Two years ago, we were Pat Sajak and Vanna White, and last year, I was Thor and Ashley was Wonder Woman. This year, as you can see in the picture below, Ashley was Minnie Mouse, and I was Mickey. We had so much fun! The kids and grandkids laughed a lot, especially when we imitated the famous Disney mice.
We have a great time as a family at Christmas, but our focus is Jesus, for He is the One who has given us our family and all the other wonderful gifts we enjoy throughout the year. We enjoy our family, but we worship and adore Jesus. I found two biblical texts with the English translation using the word "adore". One is Song of Solomon 1:4, and the other is our biblical text for today's devotion. The context is King David is praising God for the construction of the magnificent Temple to be built in Jerusalem by his son Solomon. David would help gather the materials and his son Solomon would build this religious centerpiece for the Jews.

God has created us for Himself. We are to love God supremely, worship Him, and adore Him. This gives God praise and helps us fulfill our purpose on earth: to know our Creator and worship Him. God placed this propensity for worship deep within our very DNA, and that is why we all worship. Some may argue, "I do not worship anybody or anything." But whatever has your devotion, and your adoration, well, that is what I mean by worship, and we all do it.

The Westminster Shorter Catechism states, "The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever." It is our chief end to know and worship God and enjoy Him. God inhabits the praise of His people, according to Psalm 22:3.

God welcomes and invites us to worship Him. However, we cannot worship Him properly because we are sinners separated from God, and that is where Christmas comes in! God sent His Son Jesus to be born in a manger in Bethlehem 2,000 years ago to redeem us from our sins. Matthew 1:21 states, "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."

"O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!"
