Live to Be Missed

Live to Be Missed

I want to encourage you to conduct your life here on earth in such a way that when you depart, you will be greatly missed by everyone who has known you.

Live to Be Missed

"And indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more."

(Acts 20:25)

In the movie "Letters to God", a young boy with terminal cancer writes letters to God and puts them in his mailbox. The mailman does not know what to do. Evangelist Jay Strack, who was involved in supporting the movie, said that in their research, they found that young children who have cancer and do not have long to live are most concerned with one thing: they want to know if anyone will remember them once they are gone. "Will anyone know that I was here on earth?"
All of us will leave a legacy; we will be remembered for the way we lived our lives. I believe most people want to leave a positive example and legacy for others who come behind them.

I want to encourage you to conduct your life here on earth in such a way that when you depart, you will be greatly missed. I want to challenge you to live in such a way that when you change residences, whether geographically in this life or permanently, onto the next life, everyone will miss you—family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, acquaintances, and yes, the poor. I heard someone ask this question, and it has stuck with me: Will the poor miss you when you die?

There is a man in the Bible who lived in such a way that when he departed, he left such a vacuum and emptiness that people indeed missed him. His name is Paul. In studying the Book of Acts with our church for four years now, it has been a blessing for me to get to know more deeply some of the amazing people in it: Peter, Paul, Lydia, Luke, and others.

Paul was a man who lived his life on mission and with great passion. It is no surprise for us to read that when he left the Ephesian elders in Miletus in AD 57, they were heartbroken, because Paul said, "you will see my face no more." Why were they so saddened? Paul had poured his life and soul into them. They deeply loved him and knew him to be an authentic and genuine man of God, more concerned for them than himself.

Parents and grandparents especially, the greatest legacy you can leave to your posterity is a knowledge and deep passion for the Lord Jesus Christ. Some of you had it modeled for you well, how to live for the Lord. You got a front row seat, and you are blessed for sure. For others of you, that is not your story. You are the one that God has raised up to be the man or woman of God who will impact your family and loved ones in such a way that they will want to follow in your path. We all are accountable to God for the way we live. Let me encourage you to build upon the solid foundation of Jesus and His teachings.
