"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ."
(Colossians 3:22-23)
On a recent Sunday, I had one of those days. By that I mean it was very full and rewarding. I preached at Cornerstone Community Church in Leander at 10:00 a.m. We planted Cornerstone almost four years ago. They have a wonderful church, and it was a blessing for me to be there, see them, and preach God's Word. They are currently meeting outdoors in a wedding venue. Yes, outdoors in Texas in August equals a toasty experience. But you know what? I did not even notice the heat. The fans and shade certainly helped, but most of all, it was just a blessing to be there and worship with this body of believers. Then, I drove to Austin and made it in time to preach at our home church, Great Hills Baptist Church.
After the worship service, we had a wonderful deacons' meeting with many of our servant leaders at GHBC. Our deacons are committed to three main objectives: serving the church, helping the pastors, and promoting unity in the church. They take Acts 6 seriously and attempt to follow the model provided by the Early Church. After the deacons' meeting, I headed home to study for our Core Team meeting at our new church campus in Liberty Hill. Our group meets each Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. We pray and worship, and then I share a brief message from the Word of God. This particular Sunday was so neat because this was the first time we were able to meet at our new location, the Santa Rita Ranch Elementary School. It is such a nice facility and perfect for our meetings. We will continue to meet as a Core Team with the goal of a public launch in January 2022. After our time of worship, some came over to our home for a time of fellowship and eating pizza.
I slept very well that Sunday night! I want to go to heaven tired. Let me encourage you to give your best and serve as Paul admonishes us, "heartily". Remember that you and I are serving the Lord Jesus, the One who saved us and called us to live for Him. Yes, I know it is important to take time off. I try every Saturday to let that be a sabbath day of rest for me. We have to find that rhythm of rest because that pleases the Lord as we obey the Fourth Commandment of the Decalogue, to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy (Exodus 20:8).
May the Lord bless and energize you on this Monday morning. I am praying for you even now, that God would bless you and you would give your all to Him. Will it not be worth it all when we hear the King tell us, "Great job! Now, come on home!"
