"Many sorrows come to the wicked,
but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the LORD.
So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him!
Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!"
(Psalm 32:10-11)
Trust God. Obey God. Have you noticed that this is the key, the secret sauce to effectively living the Christian life? It is easier to trust God and obey Him when things are going well, but in times of difficulty it is especially necessary to trust God and not lean on our own understanding. It is also imperative that we obey God, even when we do not feel like it.
In Psalm 32, King David instructs the children of God that while sorrows will come to the wicked, what envelops the people of God is His unfailing love. Since this is true, we should rejoice, be glad, and shout for joy. When a hurting and watching world sees you praising the Lord in the midst of your storm, it causes them to ask how you can do that. To sing for joy while all others are crying in sorrow leads the world to ask what you possess that they do not.
A couple of weeks ago, our worship team at Great Hills Baptist Church sang the song, "It Is Well." I invite you to read the lyrics and listen as Lori Fair sings this song of praise.
