Some reading today's devotion are going through a dark night of the soul. The unthinkable has happened. You are worn down, emotionally depleted, and you are confused. The temptation that bears upon your soul is to ask God, "Why?" I think that is most natural. When we hurt, we struggle to find answers, and we all entertain at least the thought of asking God why He allowed this to happen. Recently at our church, one of our dads shared how hard it was when his 11 year-old son died in an accident. He too was tempted to ask God why and become bitter and angry. But he said something so very powerful; he said that he and his wife did not let their minds go to that place, because asking why only allows weeds of bitterness to grow in our souls.
I spoke with a lady recently who has received some terrible news regarding her health. I did not have a lot to say except that I and our church will walk with her through this trial. I also cried with her. There are times when words are not needed. Instead of saying something like, "I know how you feel," or, "Just trust God," or, "It will be all right," I think it is better to say nothing and just weep with those who weep.
Are you walking through the darkest night of your soul? I encourage you to reach out to a trusted Christian friend and share your hurt and burden with them. Do you know someone who is going through a horrible time in his or her life? Please reach out to them in Christ-like love. You do not need to say much, if anything at all. Simply let them know you care, you love them, and you will help walk with them through this hard time.
Jehovah Jireh—the LORD who provides. He is enough. He will provide for you and get you to the other side. Ask God to help you. I am praying for you even now. Take a moment and listen to the song "Jireh". You will be lifted up and encouraged.
