"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."
(Hebrews 10:24-25; ESV)
Community is a powerful key to life! We all love to be somewhere we belong and feel safe in! This new gym that Kyndall and I have been going to has been so inviting, and the community has been EXCELLENT! We have gotten to meet new people each workout, and most of those we have seen again remembered our names after just one workout! It's nice to go to this gym day in and day out (or week in and week out) and know that we are welcomed, known, and accepted!
Community MUST be a "basic" for every Christian! In the verses above, the author of Hebrews encourages us to not neglect to meet together. In this verse, we see the need and the command for engaging in community.
We, as believers in Christ, must be regularly meeting together to worship God, hear the word of God taught and preached, be encouraged, and then go out into the world and be salt and light in the midst of a dark and depressing world! We need the community of believers to encourage us and to help us in this crazy life!
It is amazing that the Lord gives us a community when we begin our relationship with Him! He adopts us into His family, and we immediately get a plethora of brothers and sisters in Christ! This community has a common goal, it has diversity, and it has many more positive attributes. The common term for this community that we can be a part of is "the Church". Now, the Church is not a building; it's the people! The Church is the community of believers!
I have loved seeing that even amidst a Global pandemic, the Church is marching forward! It has for sure looked different! But the Church of the Lord Jesus has continued to march forward and to progress! Community is a need that everyone shares, but it is also an integral part of Christianity!
What does your involvement in your community of believers look like? Are you neglecting meeting together? Are you not serving in your local community of believers? ...or are you someone who is involved and constantly trying to add to the fold of your community?
What does the "basic" of community look like in your life?
JOURNAL: Ask yourself this question: "What does my involvement in my community of believers look like?" and see how the Holy Spirit speaks to you. Write down your thoughts, and talk to someone in your community of faith about it!
