"Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
(Romans 15:13)
Mandisa started the same way many other successful singers started out: on the hit TV show, American Idol. She joins the ranks of performers Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, and many others doing extremely well after their time on the show. Mandisa even won a Grammy Award for her album Overcomer. I like her music because she sings for the glory of God and the building up of the Church.
But Mandisa has had her fair share of difficulty and critics. In the 2009 season of American Idol, Simon Cowell, one of the show's judges, made some disparaging comments about Mandisa's weight. Instead of allowing these comments to devastate her, she relied on Christ, and the Lord has blessed her greatly. She is an inspiration to many, and God has given her two stellar gifts: obviously the ability to sing very well, but also the ability to encourage others with hope.
Her latest song on the radio is a duet with Jon Reddick entitled, You Keep Hope Alive. Here are some of the lyrics:
Days may be darkest, but your light is greater
You light our way, God, you light our way
When evil is rising, you're rising higher
With power to save, with power to save
You keep hope alive, you keep hope alive
From the beginning to end, your word never fails
You keep hope alive, because you are alive
Jesus, you are alive
