"Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah."
(Psalm 46:10-11)
The Center for Disease Control has some alarming statistics regarding the effects of this current pandemic on our nation:
40.9% reported mental health or behavioral issues.
30.9% had depression or anxiety.
26.3% had trauma and stress.
13.3% started or increased substance abuse.
10.7% considered suicide in the last 30 days.
I read these stats on my friend, Pastor Gregg Matte's Twitter feed from September 10, 2020. Gregg serves as the pastor of FBC Houston, TX and is the founder of Breakaway Ministries in College Station, TX. He wrote, "I'm grateful for our church and countless others who make a difference every day, so I'm raising my voice in support of the essential role that churches play in our society."
The best thing you and I can do during these troubled days is to simply be still and know that God is on His throne. Remember that Jehovah Sabaoth, the LORD of hosts, is with us, and no matter the threatening skies above, God still delivers and comes through for His people.
While reading and studying Psalm 46, I kept thinking of the song by Shane and Shane entitled "Psalm 46 (LORD of Hosts)". I invite you to be still for a few minutes and listen to this song and be blessed as you contemplate the goodness and power of God. Listen here:
