"But God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
(Romans 5:8)
I have always enjoyed Valentine's Day, the day we get to show some extra love and attention to those who mean the most to us. God has blessed me with four wonderful ladies in my life: my wife, Ashley, my daughter, Hannah, and my daughters-in-law, Danielle and Kyndall Forshee. All of these ladies are wonderful women of God, and I am so blessed to be a part of their lives.
While watching the Super Bowl a couple of weeks back, I saw a commercial that spoke of the four types of love from the Greek language: philia, storge, eros, and agape. One of our church members commented on how I have mentioned those four words from the pulpit, and here they are in this commercial. Philia refers to a love between friends; storge is the kind of love like a grandmother has for her granddaughter; eros connotes romantic love; and agape, the highest of them all, is the type of love that sacrifices for another.
In Romans 5:8, the Apostle Paul uses the Greek word agape to describe the love that Jesus has for each one of us. God has gone on record for all time and eternity in declaring His love for mankind. There is no greater love than the love Jesus Christ demonstrated when He laid down His life for you, me, and all sinners. The Son of God willingly gave up His life at 33 years of age so that we could be forgiven and live eternally with Him. Yes, John 3:16 says it memorably: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
Christian contemporary artist, Charles Billingsley, has a wonderful song entitled, "God So Loved the World". The music video that accompanies the song is moving, and I encourage you to take a few minutes and watch it. You will be blessed.
