"but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace."
(Romans 8:6b, ESV)
I love everything surrounding the beginning of a new year. I love new year's resolutions, I love the new year's day countdown and celebration, and I love the spirit of optimism that is in the air for a new year.
One thing I look forward to in a new year is setting new goals or new things to aspire to. For me, there is just something about the newness of a year that makes you want to try some new things, set some new goals, and get the year started right. One thing that I am really trying to do this year is to have a word for the year that is my theme and a source of inspiration and guidance. I know this is not a new thing or a new phenomenon, but it was new to me in 2020, and I wanted to try it for 2021.
My word for 2021 is "prayer". In my time with the Lord and looking in the scriptures, the word that I believe the Lord impressed upon my heart is prayer. Since I have chosen the word "prayer", I have picked up a few books on prayer, changed up how I do my quiet time to emphasize prayer more, picked passages to memorize that focus on prayer, and have tried to just pray more in my own life.
What about you?
Have you ever picked a word for the year? Have you ever tried to focus on one word that the Holy Spirit impresses upon your heart? It's only the 11th of this month, so why don't you take a few days to seek God's will for your life this year and ask the Holy Spirit for a word for 2021?
Romans 8:6 is our Scripture verse for today, and it says, "but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace." I believe that as you get your word from the Holy Spirit and you find a passage of Scripture that inspires or affirms that word, then you will be setting your mind on the Spirit, thus, resulting in life and peace!
What will your word for 2021 be?
Reply back to this email if you already have a word for the year or come up with a word soon. We would love to pray with you for a great 2021 and pray specifically for your word!
