Open My Eyes

Open My Eyes

What would it be like for you to take a few moments to just revel and
marvel at the truth of God's Word? ...to truly BEHOLD the Word of God?

Open My Eyes

This week's devotions are written by my son, Bryant Forshee, Junior High Pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
- Pastor Danny
"Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law."

(Psalm 119:18, ESV)

Over Christmas break, I got the privilege and absolute joy to hold my new baby niece, Riley! She is BEAUTIFUL! I loved being able to hold her and just look at her sweet little face. The thing that was extra special was when she was awake and just looking around at the world. Now, those moments were sporadic and not very often, because that baby can SLEEP! But it was so amazing to just look at her little precious eyes darting around, taking in this world that she would grow up in.

As I reflect on holding baby Riley, my mind wonders what it is going to be like for her as she discovers this world in which we live: what it will be like for her when she sees a beautiful sunset, a flying bee, a storm coming in, her favorite toy or candy, when she sees all of the beautiful, crazy, awesome, terrifying, awe-inspiring things that make up our world in which we live today. What beauty and power there is in open eyes!

I love today's Scripture verse because I believe it is a great prayer to pray every time we open up God's word. Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the bible, and it is all about the Word of God. I love that the Psalmist asks the Lord to open up his eyes so that the Psalmist may BEHOLD wondrous things out of God's Word.

What if that was your prayer before you opened up God's Word? What would it be like for you to take a few moments to just revel and marvel at the truth of God's Word? What would it be like for you to position your heart, mind, and eyes in a humble and available position to BEHOLD the Word of God?

Whether you have had your quiet time today or not, right now, just pray the truth of Psalm 119:18 and go read your favorite passage of Scripture. Let the Holy Spirit fill you with wonder and awe at the wondrous truth that comes from the Word of God.

May we be a people who are filled with awe, whose eyes are wide open at the wondrous things out of God's Word!
