"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others."
(Philippians 2:3-4, CSB)
"The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is by singing loud for all to hear." Elf is, for sure, one of my favorite Christmas movies. It is hilarious, heart-warming, and hilarious... Did I mention that already? The movie concludes with Buddy the Elf repairing Santa's sleigh and everyone singing Christmas carols, which ends up powering Santa's sleigh. We see Santa flying all over New York City, as Buddy the Elf helped save the day.
Now, please do not go around singing loud for all to hear EVERYWHERE, because that may get you into trouble. What can we practically do to spread Christmas cheer? Buddy the Elf let his overflowing Christmas spirit fill him with joy, gladness, and happiness during the Christmas season, and it was contagious everywhere he went. How can you be someone who spreads the true spirit of Christmas around this holiday season? How can you show someone kindness and compassion this holiday season?
The verse above is such a great reminder and example of how to serve and love people properly: we must do so selflessly. Jesus was the ultimate example of a servant. He served and died for all of mankind. He chose the form of a servant and did not come as the triumphant ruler that the Jewish people thought the Messiah would. Jesus was about the Father's mission, and that motivated His day-to-day life. Let that be true of His followers as well. Let us be filled with motivation and the Holy Spirit as we go day-to-day, and let us impact and be contagious for Jesus wherever we go.
Here is my challenge for myself and you today: Perform a random act of kindness for someone. I know COVID has shut down a lot of movement and put restrictions on different things, but how can you bless someone today? Not with a selfish motive, but in humility, how can you consider someone more important than yourself? Can you pay for someone's order? Can you send a lifelong friend some money for the holidays? Can you serve at a local food bank? Can you give a gift card to a random stranger?
Today, use a random act of kindness to worship your Heavenly father and spread Christmas cheer. I also challenge you to make it a family thing, if possible. How can you bless someone today?
