A healthy, hearty laugh is good medicine for our souls. Everyone enjoys being around those who can make them laugh. I know some people who are genuinely funny. They hardly have to work at it because it just comes naturally to them. One of those guys is Christian comedian Tim Hawkins. Every time we have had him at our church, the place is packed, and people leave with much joy in their hearts. Some have commented that their faces hurt from smiling and laughing so much. Dennis Swanburg (a.k.a. the Swan) is also very funny. Like Hawkins, his jokes are hilarious and clean.
Two men were dropped off by a plane on a lake in the middle of a vast wilderness. They were so excited because they were about to go moose hunting. The pilot told them that he really hoped they had a great time, and he would be back to get them in a week. But the pilot made it very clear that if one of them killed a large moose, then the other hunter would need to kill a smaller moose. The reason was that the plane would not be able to lift them and two large moose. He said the cargo would simply be too heavy, and the plane would never get off the ground. The two hunters responded that they understood completely. The pilot said, "Guys, seriously, this is no joke. You both cannot kill two large moose. If you do, I promise you I will not take you out of here but leave you." The hunters again assured the pilot that they would not both kill two large moose, and all would be well. A week later, the pilot came back, landed on the lake in the middle of the woods, and spotted the two hunters on the shore. Each hunter had killed a very large moose. The pilot got out of the cockpit, shook his head, scolded the two hunters, and reminded them of what he had said the week before. The two hunters apologized but told the pilot that last year they had killed two moose larger than these and the pilot was able to get them out on a similar plane. After much convincing, the pilot agreed to their plan. At the end of the lake, the plane lifted off the ground but quickly dove into the woods due to the excessive weight on board. All three men survived the crash but were knocked unconscious. When the two hunters woke up, one asked, "How far did we get?" The other hunter said, "About 100 yards further than we did last year!" :D
Laughter is good for your soul. Hang out with people that make you laugh. I have a couple of guys in my family that are just funny. My two brothers, Jerry and Johnny, really make me laugh. It is always good to talk to them. My cousin, Scott Morton, also makes me laugh. I love these guys and always enjoy being around them.
Life is very hard at times. This past year has been especially hard for so many. Take a deep breath, say a prayer to God for strength, and laugh. It is good for your soul.
