Mack Brock has written many popular Christian songs that we hear on the radio and sing in churches today throughout the US. Here are some that he has written or performed: "O Come to the Altar," Resurrecting," and "Even the Impossible." Mack has written over 200 songs and is a very gifted musician, singer, and songwriter. He has even been in concert with Hillsong Worship singing before a packed crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
In a few weeks, on the REvangelical podcast, we will air my interview with Mack's dad, Don, who has been a friend of mine for over 30 years. Don has served as the pastor of Gateway Baptist Church in Columbia, SC, for 29 years. He is a godly man, a pastor who leads with integrity. In the interview, he recounts the story of when Mack was 16 years old and traveled with him on a trip to London, England. They attended a worship service with Matt Redman as the worship pastor. The pastor told the church that he had a word of prophecy and he began to speak directly to Mack Brock. No one knew who he was; he was just one of hundreds of people in the service that day. He looked at Mack and basically told him he would do everything he is doing today! He told him he would lead worship for his generation and write songs for God.
Mack was one of the founding members of the Elevation Worship band. After leading and singing with them for nearly 10 years, he felt God leading him to leave the band in 2017 and branch out on his own. He said after prayer and fasting, he felt God telling him it was time to leave. He said it was an act of obedience to walk away from the comfortable community that he enjoyed. As you read this devotion today, do you feel God bringing about a change for you, a change that will require you to step out in faith and obey God? That is an exciting place to be! It may seem impossible, and you may not have any earthly idea how this will work out... but God never asks us to figure everything out; rather, he tells us to obey Him.
