"Therefore he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there."
(Acts 17:17)
I learned recently about a new missional group in San Francisco who are sharing Jesus in Silicon Valley. The group's name is ACTS which is an acronym that stands for Acknowledging Christ in Technology and Society. The concept is derived from Acts 17 when the Apostle Paul went to Athens to share Jesus with a very intellectual and hard to reach people, much like Silicon Valley today.
The ministry's founders are Trae and Michele Stevens, and their ministry was highlighted in a recent New York Times article. In this article, Michele shares with Emma Goldberg of the NYT the following: "We are always taught as Christians to serve the meek, the lowly, the marginalized . . . I think we've realized that, if anything, the rich, the wealthy, the powerful need Jesus just as much." ( Source.)
I found this helpful description of ACTS 17 on Chat GPT, my new AI friend:
"Trae and Michele Stevens are known for their work in blending faith with modern technology, focusing on how Christianity can be expressed in and impact various sectors of society, especially technology. Their work emphasizes how individuals and organizations can honor and acknowledge Christ in their professional lives, particularly in the context of technology and society.
"Acknowledging Christ in Technology and Society explores the challenges and opportunities Christians face in the fast-evolving tech world. The goal is often to find ways to integrate faith and values in technology development, business practices, and even social media, while considering how Christian teachings can inform ethical decision-making in technological innovations and societal advancements." ( Source.)
What a blessing it is to see how God continues to raise up willing servants of Jesus to take the Gospel to every strata of culture and society. This creative approach by the Stevenses with ACTS 17 reminds me of another innovative group of Christ-followers who are reaching those in the Gaming industry, a popular realm of society especially among the Gen-Z-ers and Millennials.
Let us pray for these who are stepping out in faith with a passion to make Jesus known in places He is not. Let me encourage you to share Jesus where He has planted you. You can reach people no one else can because God has uniquely created and equipped you to do the greatest work, and that is telling everyone about the Son of God who came to save the world.
