The Man in White

The Man in White

The Lord is revealing Himself to people in the Middle East and Northern Africa in dreams all the time! We have an encouraging story to share today!

The Man in White

This week's devotions are written by my friend Jessica Hermann, former director of our college ministry at Great Hills Baptist Church.

This week, I am sharing stories from my friend who serves in North Africa sharing the Gospel. Names have been changed for safety reasons, and you might notice some funny abbreviations and alternate words: these are replacing typical Christian words that must be changed for her safety, sending these emails from a Muslim country.
My bestie, R, and I strolled through the mall, wondering who He wanted us to talk to. "R, show me how you make friends here, you're so good at it," I said. "Okay, that girl -- let's go be her friend!" R and I sat at the table next to a woman who was alone, sipping on coffee late in the evening. I tapped on her shoulder, "Hello, would you like to come sit and talk with us?" I asked shyly. In a quiet mall, our new friend sat with us and we talked for over an hour. We asked her about her dreams in life, and she returned the question to us. We spoke so gently and slowly about how we have dreams, but our life has already been fulfilled through our relationship with JC. We really took the time to explain his beauty, his forgiveness, his transformation of our lives. She was tracking with us, but you could tell she thought it was all a little strange.

R felt prompted and asked, "Harper, have you ever dreamt of a man in white?" She quickly responded, "Oh yes, last year when I was in the holy city on the pilgrimage, a man came to me in my dreams over and over." She began to touch her face and said, "He had the most beautiful face and eyes and hair. He was so beautiful." Tears began to fill my eyes and I exclaimed, "What did he say to you?!" She said this beautiful man took her hand and said to her in her dialect, "أجي معيا" meaning, "Come with me."

The tears were flowing y'all, I couldn't help it! I told her so confidently, "This was JC in your dream! He came to you because he loves you and wants you to know him!" Her face was dumbfounded. We opened up John 8 on our phones, and she skimmed through it. She said, "Right now my life is like this," as she pointed to her black purse. "But, if I had him, my life would be beautiful. It would be like this," as she touched the white coffee plate. Now R and I were dumbfounded. "Yes, exactly!" we responded.

As we left together, we agreed to meet up again and maybe even read the word. Over the next week, our new friend became a little unresponsive and making excuses as to why she couldn't meet up. We then learned that she had boarded a plane for another trip to the holy city -- a second pilgrimage! She is there right now, circling a black square, believing it makes her clean. We know it's no coincidence that we met and shared with her the week of her pilgrimage. Really hoping to meet her sometime soon when she gets back!
Perhaps you're not used to hearing such stories in the United States or other western countries, but the Lord is revealing Himself to people in the Middle East and Northern Africa in dreams all the time! I was so struck in this story by this girl's understanding that Jesus can make our hearts clean. It reminds me of 1 John 1:7-9:

"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.  If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."

Amen, we have been made clean! Let's pray for this young woman today, that the Lord would call her to Himself and that she too may be washed clean of her sin and enter into His grace.
