"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things."
(Philippians 4:8)
I will share some practical spiritual disciplines with you today that will help guard your purity. Sexual temptation and sin are common in our culture. Many do not think much about it. But for the follower of Jesus, saints of God, we are called by God to live a life of holiness and purity. We are to walk with the Lord and be salt and light in a dark and fallen world. Are we better than other people? No, but we have the Holy Spirit within us who guards and protects as we stay yielded to Him and His Word.
When talking about moral failures of spiritual leaders or fallen saints, I hope you heed the warnings of God and His Word to stay on the path of righteousness. The enemy of your soul would like nothing more than for you to stumble and fall in this area of moral purity. He knows the results will be horrible for you, your loved ones, and your ministry. The hurt and suffering inflicted on many people are staggering. Dr. James Merritt, pastor at Cross Pointe Church in Duluth, Georgia, said if he were to commit adultery and God did not kill him, he would wonder if he was really a Christian!
Stay in the Word of God and pray every single day. Do what Paul commands and meditate on that which is good. Do not miss a day of the spiritual disciplines of prayer and Bible intake. Get in an accountability group with other believers of the same sex, and meet weekly. The devil would love to take you out, but God is stronger and will help you and give you all you need to be victorious in your hour of temptation. But you must follow Him and His paths.
Something else I commend to you is to have a strong, ever-growing relationship with your spouse. Date your mate, and spend time communicating with one another. Affair-proof your marriage through praying with and for each other and always encouraging one another.
