"Keep your life free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for he himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you. Therefore, we may boldly say, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?'"
(Hebrews 13:5-6, CSB)
It is crazy for me to think that my and Kyndall's little Tabor is six months old already! Time has been FLYING by, and we are loving every second... well, maybe not all the diapers... :)
A recent development in our lives is that Tabor has been consistently crying when certain things happen. Now, babies cry–yes, we understand that–but the main trigger that Kyndall and I have observed is when Tabor cannot see us. Now, I do not know if this is new parent naivety or what, but we have been very surprised to observe that when she or I are not in Tabor's eyesight, he gets fussy. When we come over to check on him, he begins smiling, giggling, and/or calming down. While this can be frustrating, it is also really sweet, and it has taught us that there is power in presence.
The Christian life is no different. There is power in God's presence with us. Most of us are very familiar with the promise of God's continual presence in Matthew 28:19-20, when Jesus says that He is with us, even to the end of the age. When I was reading the book of Hebrews, I saw another reminder of the promise of God's continual presence in our lives.
The verses above start off with keeping our lives free from the love of money and being satisfied with what we have. What is the reasoning that we can be satisfied with what we have? Well, we have God's presence with us at all times, because God says, "I will never leave you or abandon you." Think about that truth for a moment, that God gives you His word that He will never leave you or abandon you. He promises to be there in the hard parts of life, the good parts of life, and all the in-betweens. The writer of Hebrews then goes on to build upon the promise of God's presence in our lives by saying that we, as followers of Christ can say, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"
How many of us need a reminder that God is with us today? Like, right now, God is with you.
Think about that and just thank Him that He doesn't leave or abandon us. You may be going through unbelievably difficult (or maybe unbelievably great!) circumstances, but you can know that God is always with you!
Take comfort in knowing that God is always with you!
