Principles to Live By: Energized by God's Presence, Pt. 3

"To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory."

(Colossians 1:27)

If you are a follower of Jesus, then the Holy Spirit of God has taken up residence in you–yes, you! Your body becomes the temple of God, as Paul teaches us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's."

If you are like me, then sometimes you forget who you are in Christ. In Mercy Me's song, "Say I Won't", they put it like this: "Driving 35 with a rocket inside, didn't know what I had." We need to be reminded that God lives within us, and there is no stopping the power of God. We can do everything He calls us to do because He does it through us by His Spirit. He only asks that we trust Him and walk by faith. Why is this profound truth so easy to forget? I wish I knew why. I am chief among sinners in this area. I love the Lord with all my being, yet I get spiritual amnesia in the crucible of testing and fail to remember just how awesome God is and how He will come through, just like He always has.

I think of Jesus' teachings on the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of John: "If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you." (John 14:15-17)

The primary emphasis of Dr. Stanley's 4th life principle is that the presence of God energizes us for our work. He desires us to be aware of His presence. There will be times when you feel Him even more present if it is His choosing. There is no limit as to what you can do when it is God's will, and He is with you.

Do you believe this? Do you believe in your heart that there is nothing that is impossible for you, if it is His will? I hope you believe that. It is very biblical: Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
