"Trust and obey, for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey."

Principles to Live By: Obey God, Leave Results to Him, Pt. 4

"For all the promises of God in Him are Yes,
and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us."

(2 Corinthians 1:20)

God always keeps His promises. Scripture is replete with wonderful promises from God to His people. He rewards our obedience and grants blessings overflowing to His children. God loves His kids. He delights in us and in giving us all we could ever need.

In our devotions this week, we have been studying what Dr. Charles Stanley referred to as one of his "Life Principles". He had 30 of these principles that he lived by and taught. Right near the top of the list is this principle of obeying God. I am reminded of the hymn that says, "Trust and obey, for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey."

I know these principles from Dr. Stanley are going to bless you. These notes are posted underneath the sermon he preached on Life Principle Number 2. (Source.)

Stanley writes,
As we apply the following principles to our lives, we will begin to obey God with confidence and joy, knowing that He can be fully trusted to keep all of His promises:
  • Trust God with your life and all that concerns you.
There is no way to go wrong if you place your hope and trust in God.
  • Wait on the Lord for an answer to your problem or situation.
When in doubt, refuse to move ahead unless you know God is leading you.
  • Meditate on God's Word.
When you saturate your mind with the Word of God, you gain His viewpoint. When a temptation comes, you will know right from wrong and can act accordingly.
  • Listen to the Holy Spirit.
God continues to speak to His people today. He speaks to us through His Word, the Holy Spirit, and through the words of a pastor or trusted Christian friend.
I think of Chuck Swindoll's sage advice on discerning the will of God for your life. He said to pray and be sensitive to circumstances where God is working and getting your attention. They may not be coincidental after all.

Tomorrow we will wrap up this week's devotions on the blessings of obeying God. Here is a great song by Jesus Culture entitled "Yes and Amen" that speaks about the promises of God being yes and amen. I think you will enjoy it:
