Tear Off the Roof

Tear Off the Roof

When we talk about Jesus, there is a lot that can happen. When we lift up the name of Jesus, there is a lot that can happen.

Tear Off the Roof

This week's devotions are written by my son, Bryant Forshee, Lead Student Pastor for Cross Church, Springdale, AR campus.
- Pastor Danny
"Since they were not able to bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and after digging through it, they lowered the mat on which the paralytic was lying. Seeing their faith, Jesus told the paralytic, 'Son, your sins are forgiven.'"

(Mark 2:4-5, CSB)

With back-to-back days ending with, "How is your worship?" it is only fitting that we continue to end this week's devos with a song that I am JAMMING to lately. It is "TEAR OFF THE ROOF" by Brandon Lake. I will be honest, his whole "COAT OF MANY COLORS" album is amazing, but let's talk about "TEAR OFF THE ROOF". Here is how the chorus goes:

There's power in the presence
Power in the blood, power in the name of Jesus
There's power in the presence
Power in the blood, powеr in the name of Jesus
And Hе has more in the hem of His garment
Than the camp of the enemy
There's power in the presence
Power in the blood, power in the name of Jesus
This anthemic song is so encouraging because it reminds us of how powerful our God is and how weak our enemy is. Brandon reminds us of the power of the blood and power of the name of Jesus. He then references the story from Mark 5 where the woman touches Jesus's garment and is instantly healed. I don't know about you, but I need constant reminders that I am on the side of the all-powerful God because of my relationship with Jesus. I need the reminder that the camp of the enemy does not have the power, and the King of Kings and Lord of Lords has the power, and I am with Him!

Another amazing part of the song is the bridge:

There is a life-changing
Grave-shaking, dead-raising power in the room
Heart-healing, hell-stealing
No-ceiling power, so tear off the roof

A lot of the song is based on the story in Mark 2 and other gospels, when the friends tear off the roof to get their friend in front of Jesus so he can be healed. This song is such a good reminder that when and where Jesus is, there is a lot that can happen. When we talk about Jesus, there is a lot that can happen. When we lift up the name of Jesus, there is a lot that can happen.

I love this song and hope you do too, because it's all about the power of Jesus!
