"Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the seven lampstands, One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, 'Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.'"
(Revelation 1:12-13, 17)
Pastor Stanley said in his message on listening and walking with God that the confidence and joy he has with the Lord was due to him learning how to listen to God very early in life. He said his grandfather told him how God spoke to him, and he wanted that as well. He said his grandfather could not have taught him a more important lesson.
In our biblical text for today, we read of John turning to see the voice Who spoke to him. The voice was none other than the Lord Jesus Christ! Jesus put His hand on John, comforted him, and told him not to be afraid. Then, Jesus gave him an assignment to write what He would show him. John obeyed Jesus, and the Book of Revelation is the result.
