Hebrew Names of God

Hebrew Names of God

Not only do we need to have a correct perspective of who we are, but also of Who God is.

Hebrew Names of God

This week's devotions are written by my son, Bryant Forshee, Lead Student Pastor for Cross Church, Springdale, AR campus.
- Pastor Danny
"But Moses protested, 'If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, 'The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,' they will ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what should I tell them?' God replied to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM...'"

(Exodus 3:13-14a, NLT)

Yesterday we looked at who we are in Christ. When we remember who we are in Christ only because of Christ, we are confident that our identity is found in what God calls us and not in what the world will try to label us as. When we have a correct perspective of who we are, we will also benefit from the correct perspective of Who God is.

Here are some of the Hebrew names of God:
  • Yahweh – Covenantal God of Israel, Self-Existent, Eternal God, Who was, is, and is to come
  • Elohim – Powerful God and Covenant Keeper, Creator God
  • El Roi – The God Who Sees
  • Adonai – Lord, Master
  • El Elyon – God Most High, Possessor and Provider, Deliverer
  • El Shade – Almighty God, Giver of blessings
  • Jehovah Jireh – The LORD Provides, He provides for our salvation and all our needs
  • Jehovah Rophe – The LORD Heals
  • Jehovah Nissi – The LORD is our Banner
  • Jehovah Mekoddishkem – The LORD who sanctifies you
  • Jehovah Shalom – The LORD is peace
  • Jehovah Tsidkenu – The LORD is our Righteousness
  • Jehovah Rohi – The LORD is my Shepherd; He leads and feeds His sheep
  • Jehovah Shammah – The LORD is There; when the LORD is there, there is forgiveness, righteousness, peace, protection, prosperity, and power
  • Jehovah Sabaoth – The LORD of Hosts
This is WHO our GOD is... and that's not even the full list! As a follower of Jesus, this is Who is on our side. This is Who is with us throughout every second of every day. This is Who is with us in the good and bad times. This is Who is with us in the valleys and on the mountaintops. This is Who will never leave us or forsake us. This is our God with Whom we get to have a relationship because of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. This is the God with Whom we get to grow in relationship every day.

When we properly view our God for Who He is, our perspective shifts to one of praise and confidence that the one who is on our side is much greater than anything we will face in the world.
