Three Questions

Three Questions

Today, I will ask you three questions that will help you to live for the Lord with passion.

Three Questions

"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ."

(Colossians 3:23-24)

Today, I will ask you three questions that will help you to live for the Lord with passion. I presented these three questions to our church last Sunday in my annual State of the Church message. Each year in January, I ask these questions and give answers related to us as a congregation. But for today's devotion, I want to lead you through the questions and focus on you. I will give my answers to the questions as an example for you to ponder and formulate your own answers.

First, where have you been? This is a question of reflection. How was 2022 for you? Some of you reading this devotion today will say 2022 was rough, and you were glad to turn the page and begin a new year. For others, your year was blessed, and you are most grateful.

You may do what I did and scroll through your mobile phone and look at the pictures you took. We started off 2022 in Disney World with some of our family and had a great time. One of my goals is to ride "It's A Small World" with each of my grandkids. I did, and it was wonderful, and I did it again just a few weeks ago with our newest grandchild, Bella. Her birth on January 27 was the highlight of the year for our family. She is almost one year old now, and what a sweetie she is! Another highlight was being able to go back to Asia and serve the Lord for a couple of weeks on-mission.

So, give it a try: take a moment, scroll through the pictures on your phone, and praise God for where you have been.

Next question: What is God doing in your life right now, this day in your life? Instead of looking back a year, take a pause and look at where you are in your walk with Him, your marriage or your singleness, your finances, your involvement in your church, and most of all, evaluate where you are in your relationship with God. Socrates said to know thyself, and that is good and sage advice.

I recommend a great song by Ben Fuller called "Who I Am". It will bless and encourage you. You can listen to it here:
I love Psalm 37:4, which tells us, "Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart." God loves you and wants to bless you today, to be a part of your life today, to speak to you today, to use you today... you get the picture. Don't be so limited in only looking back or ahead that you miss this day. The present really is a present from God that He wants us to unwrap, appreciate, and enjoy.

Finally, where, by God's grace, are you going in 2023?

What goals and ambitions do you have for your life, walk with God, family, work, relationships, etc.? If you aim at nothing, you hit it every time. I love the phrase "blessed to be a blessing". I want to grow more in Christ, be more like Jesus, be more Spirit-filled, be careful what I say, worry less, and trust God more.

How about you? What are you looking forward to doing? In what areas are you wanting to grow? What new places will you visit and new books will you read? God loves you! Dream big, and watch how He will bless you!

Be Determined

Did you make New Year's resolutions for 2023? Many people think it is a waste of time. You may not usually make those resolutions, but this year, we at DFEA invite you to be determined with the Apostle Paul to let some things go and instead embrace that which is most important and noble: to pursue Christ wholeheartedly and share Him with others.
