"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?"
(Romans 8:28, 31-32)
Paul acknowledges the oppositions we as God's people face. How should we respond? He then writes a wonderful truth that if God is for us, who can be against us? The answer implied is no one and nothing! God is for us; what a profound, impactful lesson. Abraham Lincoln was asked during the Civil War whose side he thought God was on: the North or the South? Lincoln replied that he was not too concerned whose side God was on. He wanted to make sure he was on God's side.
How do we know God is for us? He gave us His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so we can have a relationship with Him. Now that is love! John 3:16 states this truth beautifully and emphatically. So does Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Our gracious God freely gives us all things. He is not holding out on us. He gives us all we need. A life of mental health, free of worry, anxiety, fear, and depression, is a life God offers to us. He has that power to grant it to us, but we must align ourselves with Him and what He says.
The devil is against you. Sure, there will be people that will just not like you, but they are not your enemies. It does not mean, however, that you should give them access to your life. It is your house, and you determine who you let in. There are so many wonderful truths and promises in God's Word as we see in Romans 8. The primary truth I want you to take to your heart and mind right now is this one: the greatest weapon we must fight the lies of the enemy with is the truth of God. Our worth is not based on our performance or what others say of us; rather, our worth is based on what Jesus has done for us. He died for you, and when you receive Him, you get everything: forgiveness, peace, purpose, and the ability to win every battle with temptation.
