While studying Romans 8:11, I came across the following quotes from biblical commentators who help us understand Paul's teaching:
"Paul's statement may be paraphrased: 'If you are believers, the risen Christ dwells within you. It is true, on the one hand, that your body is still subject to that temporal death which is the consequence of sin; but, on the other hand, the Spirit who has taken up his abode in you, the living and life-giving Spirit of Christ, imparts to you that eternal life which is the consequence of justification.'" (1)
"The eternal, spiritual life of God is implanted by the indwelling Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ here and now, even though a believer's body is mortal." (2)
"In other words, God promises spiritual resurrection life now for each believer's mortal body and physical resurrection in the future for that mortal body." (3)
Jesus gives His followers the promise of present power and future resurrection. We do not have to wait until we die to experience abundant and eternal life. Jesus said in John 10:10, "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." Abundant life begins at salvation and carries on to heaven. We have hope now and forever. Jesus warned us that the devil is a liar and murderer, and I am seeing this more now than ever. Satan is hurting, deceiving, and destroying so many. We are no match for him in our own power, but in Christ, we are hypernikao. Paul says in Romans 8:37, "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."
Do you believe it? I mean, do you really believe that the power that raised Jesus from the dead dwells within you? It is true!
