Warfare Prayer, Pt. 3

Warfare Prayer, Pt. 3

"Above all, take the shield of faith with which you will
be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one."

Warfare Prayer, Pt. 3

Are you familiar with the website GotQuestions.org? I have found it to be most helpful and recommend it to you whenever you have a question related to Scripture or a theological discussion. Most of the time I can find something helpful when I do a search on their website. As I was preparing for last week's prayer meeting, I came across a very helpful article on spiritual warfare from Got Questions, and I recommend it to you. Here is part of what I read:
"Jesus is our ultimate example of resisting temptation in spiritual warfare. Observe how Jesus handled direct attacks from Satan when He was tempted in the wilderness in Matthew 4:1-11. Each temptation was combated with the words 'it is written.' The Word of the living God is the most powerful weapon against the temptations of the devil. 'I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you' (Psalm 119:11).

"In summary, what are the keys to success in spiritual warfare? We rely on God's power, not our own. We put on the whole armor of God. We draw on the power of Scripture—the Word of God is the Spirit's sword. We pray in perseverance and holiness, making our appeal to God. We stand firm Ephesians 6:13-14; we submit to God; we resist the devil's work (James 4:7), knowing that the Lord of hosts is our protector. 'Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken' (Psalm 62:2)."
Over the last few days, we have been looking at the topic of spiritual warfare and specifically how we are to put on the armor of God to do battle against our strong but ultimately defeated foe, Satan. During our last corporate prayer meeting at our church, I invited men and women to go to the microphone and read Ephesians 6:10-20 and then pray a prayer related to that specific aspect of the armor of God. It was a powerful time with the Lord and His people.

Here are the remaining verses related to spiritual warfare in Ephesians 6:

Ephesians 6:16-17:

"Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

The shield of faith is my favorite piece of the armor of God. At this point in my prayer time, I quote Revelation 12:11. Next, as I pray about the helmet of salvation, I pray 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 and Ephesians 2:8-10. When I come to the part about Scripture, I pray Psalm 119:11.

Ephesians 6:18:

"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints."

Finally, while putting on the full armor of God, I pray about prayer! Yes, it is a mighty weapon, and at this time, I pray Philippians 4:6-8.

I hope this has been helpful for you in your walk with God and the spiritual warfare you wage against Satan. The Word of God and prayer are your greatest weapons!
