The Blessed Life, Pt. 2

The Blessed Life, Pt. 2

Picking up where we left off last week, let us explore further the topic of stewardship: how we can properly manage what God has entrusted to us.

The Blessed Life, Pt. 2

"I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

(Acts 20:35)

Picking up where we left off last week, let us explore further the topic of stewardship: how we can properly manage what God has entrusted to us. God is so good to us and gives us everything we have.

The truly blessed among us are those who recognize that God is the giver of all good things, and we are setting ourselves up to be greatly blessed if we will seek first to be a blessing to others.

I want to ask two questions related to today's biblical text: What does it mean that to give is better than to receive? And how does one become a giver and not only a receiver?

Would you rather be blessed or more blessed? I think all of us would answer the latter. Those who are more blessed are those who give. In the context of today's verse, the subject is finances, and that is clear by reading the verses before. Acts 20:33-34 states, "I have coveted no one's silver or gold or apparel. Yes, you yourselves know that these hands have provided for my necessities, and for those who were with me."

We know in our hearts and minds that what Jesus is saying is true, but some of you have yet to put into practice by faith what He is teaching you. When we give something to someone and see the joy that it brings them, as well as the joy it brings us, just knowing that we were able to bless and help, well, that is far better and more blessed than us receiving something.

Also, those who are givers know this for a fact: God blesses us for that kind of lifestyle. He promises to bless the one who gives. Here are a couple of many verses in the Bible that speak to this truth:

Proverbs 11:25:

"The generous soul will be made rich,
And he who waters will also be watered himself."

Malachi 3:10:

"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,"
Says the Lord of hosts,
'If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.'"

The Word of God makes it very clear that God blesses the generous. How generous are you? Tomorrow, we will look further into this topic of how the blessed life is much more about giving than it is receiving.
