"The earth is the LORD's, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein."
(Psalm 24:1)
Our family was able to spend a week in Colorado on vacation. The Lord blessed us with a wonderful time. Most of our family trips we have taken have all been in one direction, and that is back east to Alabama. We enjoy going to the beautiful beaches of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, AL, but this year, we decided for the first time ever to go to Colorado, rocky mountain high, as John Denver would say it.
To see the Rocky Mountains is quite an unforgettable experience. One day we drove to Estes Park and entered the Rocky Mountain National Forest. We would drive a little then get out and walk some trails. The higher we went, the cooler the temperatures were, and it was a nice break from our August Texas heat.
Psalm 24:1 describes the earth with these words, "and all its fullness." To look upon the beautiful, majestic mountains of Colorado is to see the earth in its fullness.
One of the highlights of our vacation was to take a train ride up to Pikes Peak. As the train meandered slowly up to the 14,411 ft. summit, you could see for miles the beauty of God's handiwork. In 1893, English professor Katherine Lee Bates composed the words to America the Beautiful after having traveled up to Pikes Peak by carriage. She wrote these words, sung by almost every American since the turn of the 20th century:
Oh beautiful, for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain
God has indeed created this magnificent world in which we live. His creative genius is clearly on display for all who will look with the eyes of faith. Before I post a couple of photos from our Colorado trip, ponder on these spiritual thoughts with me for a moment: The God who created the world and everything in it is the same God who loves you. He created you in His image and desires a relationship with you. He reaches out to you in powerful ways through creation, your inner conscience, and a thousand other ways, some internal and others external. How will you respond to His offer of eternal life through His Son Jesus? Jesus died for your sins and arose from the grave. Will you confess Him as Lord and Savior and become a follower of His today?
