A Merry Heart

A Merry Heart

Life is hard at times, and we all need those people in our lives who will brighten
our path and make us laugh. You could be that person for someone today.

A Merry Heart

"A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance,
But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken."

(Proverbs 15:13)

I posted on Facebook last week a picture of our belongings in boxes that have yet to be put away in our new home. I asked why Ashley had not already put away all this stuff, to which she replied that she was going to punch me! Of course, I was kidding, and I think she was too! We had a good laugh, and so did many people on Facebook. It was funny reading the various comments people made. It is simply good to laugh.

Is your heart merry or sorrowful today? If you are of a merry, happy, and joyful disposition, then good for you; I rejoice with you! Romans 12:15 says we are to rejoice with those who rejoice. Some of you reading today's devotional have a sorrowful spirit. You are facing some giants, and the adversity has weighed you down. Your laughter has been turned into mourning. I am so sorry. That same verse, Romans 12:15, also says we are to weep with those who weep.

Life is hard at times, and we all need those people in our lives who will brighten our path and make us laugh. You could be that person for someone today. Here are a couple things I recommend that you and I can do to help those who are struggling (and what is cool is you too will be blessed in the process):
  1. Smile. Yes, smiling and having a cheerful countenance lifts the spirits of those who are down.

  2. Look for the positive instead of the negative. My wife, Ashley, is the most positive, optimistic person I have ever met. She always looks for (and finds, I might add) something positive in every circumstance, no matter how difficult things may get.

  3. Do not take yourself so seriously. Lighten up. Laugh at yourself. Self-deprecating humor is okay. You poking fun at yourself will help others laugh and also help you not be so serious!
Smile. Be positive. Laugh even at yourself.
