"I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance."
(Luke 15:7)
My heart is full as I write today's devotional. I hope you have had a good week and have plans to both rest and worship this coming Sunday. I invite you to join us at Great Hills Baptist Church in Austin, TX, or if you live outside of central TX, then join us on our livestream, or Facebook Live, or on YouTube.
God is blessing our church, and I am so grateful. Every good gift comes from God, as James 1:17 tells us. The longer I live, the more I understand how utterly dependent I am upon the Lord. I can do nothing of eternal significance without His power in my life. Without Him, I can do nothing (John 15:5), but with Him, I can do all things! (Philippians 4:13)
Last November, we started a weekly prayer meeting on Tuesday nights that we call Set Our Sails. Like a sailor who sets his sail for the wind to blow across it, we set our spiritual sails in prayer asking God to blow across us with the wind of the Holy Spirit and use us for God's purposes. We are experiencing some obvious works of God among our people. God is blessing our church financially, and even more so, He is allowing us to see people accept Christ through our witness.
We have some wonderful people at GHBC who love Jesus and love telling others about Him. Butch and Jan were on vacation in Cancun and shared with me their encounter with Eduardo. He has been their pool concierge for 7 years, and they have gotten to know him well. They recently took Eduardo and his girlfriend to dinner. Butch told me that Jan felt led by the Holy Spirit to share the Gospel with Eduardo. She did and then asked if he would like to receive Christ as his Savior and Lord, and his reply was a heartfelt, "Yes!" Butch sent me a picture of his wife, Jan, witnessing to him, and there are few things that excite me more than getting text messages like this from our people.
Two weeks ago, after I preached on Sunday, I gave an invitation for people to receive Christ and become followers of Jesus. Mario came forward and shared with one of our pastors on staff that he was ready to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord. After he prayed to become a follower of Jesus, he then told us he wanted to be baptized. Our pastor on staff said that was great and he would be talking to him over the coming week and looking forward to baptizing him the following Sunday. But Mario replied, "I want to be baptized now!" So, we baptized him right then and there! It was so cool. Our people did not mind at all staying a little late and watching Mario follow Jesus in believer's baptism. There was such a powerful response when he came up out of the water. Our people were shouting and clapping, and it was so sweet.
Thank You Lord! God is still saving people from everlasting destruction to eternal life. His people are still faithfully going, loving, and telling the good news of Jesus' love for them. Be encouraged, child of God. God is on the throne, and He is still doing miracles, with the greatest of His miracles being the salvation of lost souls.
