Believing God, Pt. 1

Believing God, Pt. 1

Are you hesitant to ask God for something? He is not intimidated by
our "big prayers". Let us ask Him with childlike faith and boldness.

Believing God, Pt. 1

"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!"

(Matthew 7:11)

"Come on, Pops!" These three words have become some of my favorites. They are spoken often by our 2-year-old granddaughter, Claire, a.k.a. "Little Sweetie". We just love her so much. Last week, while we were swimming for about an hour, she would look at me and say these three words several times. Each time, I would hop to whatever she was wanting me to do. She had total confidence and faith in me as her granddad that I would come to her and help her, play with her, get her something, etc. She has no doubts or wavering. She simply believes in me. If it is within my power to do it and if it in no way harms her, then there is a good possibility that I am going to do it!
I wish I had faith in God like Claire has in me. Truth be told, I often doubt God instead of simply trusting that He knows best. if it is within His will and it does not harm me, then He will grant it to me. If Claire asks me to let her go jump in the deep end of the pool with no life preserver, then my answer would be "No." She can flash those big brown eyes and say it in her inimitable way, but the answer is still negative. But why? I could never do anything knowing it would harm her or not be in her best interest. And if I as a mere mortal human being can have that capacity to love my granddaughter, then surely God has even greater compassion for me. Jesus made the following comparative statement between the heavenly Father and earthly fathers when he said in Matthew 7:11, "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!"

Are you hesitant to ask God for something? He is not intimidated by our "big prayers" (and by "big", I mean trusting God for miracles in your life and asking Him to grant you things you may have been shy about asking in the past). Perhaps you prayed in the past but no longer believe God will do it. In our prayer meeting at church last Tuesday, I felt led to admonish those present to pray and ask God for some big things. Those three things were a job, a spouse, and physical healing. I received a text later that night from a mom who had been recently let go and is in need of a new job.

Do you believe God still can? Ask Him. He knows what is best. He will either say yes, no, or you need to wait. Go ahead: believe God for it, and ask Him.
