"Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'"
(Hebrews 13:5)
Christian contemporary artist, Matthew West, has a powerful new song out entitled, "The God Who Stays". In this song, he captures a powerful truth about God, and it is this: He stays even if everyone else walks away, deserts, or abandons you. God promises us, as we read in our text for today from Hebrews 13:5, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." This verse reminds me of other verses in the Bible that speak to us about the limitless love of God:
Zephaniah 3:17 -
"The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing."
Isaiah 49:16 -
"See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
Your walls are continually before Me."
John 3:16-17 -
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."
Here are some of the lyrics from Matthew West's new song:
You're the God who stays
You're the God who stays
You're the one who runs in my direction
When the whole world walks away
You're the God who stands
With wide open arms
And You tell me nothing I have ever done
Can separate my heart
From the God who stays
It is true, God truly loves you this much! He gave His only Son, Jesus, to die for your sins on the cross so you could be redeemed and won back to Him. Romans 5:8 says, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Here is the music video to West's song, "The God Who Stays". I attach it here for you to take a moment and watch it. I actually watched it twice. It is pretty raw but communicates powerfully. After you watch the video, please join me in praying for those who so desperately need the love of God to invade their lives. Pray also that God would allow you and me to be the answer to those prayers where the love of Jesus is clearly on display.
