"You shall not be terrified of them; for the Lord your God,
the great and awesome God, is among you."
(Deuteronomy 7:21)
Last Saturday, I was enjoying a day of rest and worshiping the Lord in my house. With hands raised toward heaven and tears running down my face, I sang praises to Jesus. Unless it is an emergency for my family or church, I will rest on Saturday, do things I enjoy, and by and large, simply slow down. I will not read emails, and if I look at Facebook or other social media platforms, it will only be brief. God used three really good books and people to speak truth to me about the importance of rest. Our youth pastor, Jeffery, said he heard somewhere that the harder you work in ministry, the more you should play. That sounds good to me, and I would also add, the more you need to rest as well. Rest is not overrated! How well are you resting, playing, and doing the things that bring you laughter and joy?
Okay, back to Saturday: what a sweet time with the Lord! I listened to some great songs like, "Every Praise", "Almost Home", "I Will Wait", and "My God Is Awesome". This last song really got all over me, and I could not quit singing it. I even sang the song a capella on Sunday morning during my sermon at church. Here are two versions of the song, and I encourage you to choose one (or if you are like me, you'll enjoy both), and worship the Lord right where you are.

In our biblical text for today's devotion, Moses speaks words of assurance to the children of Israel after they had left Egypt through the Exodus and before they had entered into the Promised Land. They did not need to fear the nations that God would drive out. They would be guided and protected by "the great and awesome God". In Deuteronomy 10:21, Moses tells the children of Israel, "He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen." These words may not have been written to you, but if you know the LORD, then these words were written for you. Embrace the truth that God is awesome; He loves you; He has chosen you; He has done awesome things for you, and He will do awesome things for you in the future.
Be still before God even now, give Him praise, wait for Him, and remember He is awesome.
