"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!"
(Matthew 7:7-11)
We are seeing a stirring of the Spirit of God at our church in Austin, TX. Last November, we started a Tuesday night prayer meeting that we call "Set Our Sails". Just as the sailor sets his sails to catch the wind and move, so we are praying and asking the Spirit of God to blow across us as a church and move us into greater days of revival, salvation, and discipleship. God is acting on our behalf as we call out to Him and ASK.
One of our senior adult ladies said she was determined to be at the prayer meeting because she believes we are on the verge of revival. I appreciate her so very much. She is a widow, and her health is not the best, but she made the effort to be with the people of God to pray for and with her church on Tuesday night. My son, Leighton, who runs our social media for the church, shared with me that we had 350 people join us for prayer Tuesday night online! Is that not amazing? We praise God for the people who come and join us in person and for those who join us online.
I felt led to challenge our church to pray for us to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus. We are asking God for 100 salvations and baptisms at GHBC in 2021. Will you join us in this prayer and believe God for it? God is so good, and we are believing Him to answer this request. Some say we are not asking God for enough, but my response is, if God chooses to save more than 100, then that is wonderful!
Are you asking God for something so big that unless He answers and grants it, there is no way that it will ever happen? Do you need a miracle? Pray. Is your marriage not where it needs to be? Pray. Is your church struggling to reach people? Pray. Are you in poor health? Pray. Verse 11 of today's biblical text teaches us that God gives good things to those who--what? ASK! Are you asking? Are you believing? The older I get and the longer I walk with God, the more prayer becomes so vitally important to me. Without Jesus, I can do nothing, according to John 15:5, but with Jesus, according to Philippians 4:13, I can do all things!
Matthew 26:40-41 states, "Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, 'What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.'"
I welcome you to join us on Tuesday nights at 7:00PM. You can come to our worship center or join us on the livestream on Facebook Live or YouTube. There is power in corporate prayer.
