"Unless the Lord builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city,
The watchman stays awake in vain."
(Psalm 127:1)
Ashley and I are in the process of building our new home in Liberty Hill, TX. As you can see in the picture below, the foundation has been laid and the framing is almost complete.

We try to drive out at least once a week and check on the progress of how construction is going. If you look closely on the right side of the picture, you will notice one of the men walking where eventually our bedroom will be located. In our almost 35 years of marriage, this will be the third home we have built. Each home has been a blessing to us and our loved ones.
I have always been fascinated with the process of building a house. It is indeed a process with each step of the way playing a critical part to the completion. In constructing a house or a building of any sort, the foundation is the most critical part. If the sight work, concrete, rebar, etc. are not carefully and properly handled, then there will be trouble for the occupants of the new house. Isn't that true when it comes to our families too? When Jesus is the center of our lives individually and our household, when He is the solid rock upon which our marriage and relationships are built, then we are going to be blessed and weather every storm that comes our way. And storms will indeed come our way! Followers of Jesus are not exempt from the howling winds of adversity; in fact, we are prone to even more temptations and hardships due to the fact that the devil outside us hates Jesus within us and will seek every opportunity to harm us and our families.
I see so many young families today in the heat of the battle as they raise their children, work, worship, and simply live life. I watch as my daughter and her husband raise their two girls and the effort and energy it takes. They are doing a fantastic job, and all this foundation work will pay off hugely one day. If you are in those early home-building stages of your marriage and family, blessings to you! Yours is the hardest and most rewarding job in the world. Keep focusing on Jesus, loving one another, praying and reading the Bible as a family, attending corporate worship, and serving. God sees you, and He is doing far more in and through you than you could possibly imagine.
Foundation work is tough work, but when the LORD is in it, when He is partnering with you in the establishment of your home, then not only will you survive (thinking of you right now, parents of preschoolers!), but you will also thrive.

A New Movement
Pastor Danny discusses the new movement sweeping across churches in America: the call to prayer. He talks about how GHBC and many other churches have begun holding regularly prayer nights, bringing their congregations together, both in person and online, to pray for the needs of one another, their churches, our nation, Christians abroad, and more, and what is happening as a result.
