"For so the Lord has commanded us: 'I have set you as a light to the Gentiles, That you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.'"
(Acts 13:47)
Last Thursday, our staff at Great Hills Baptist Church joined with many other pastoral leaders of churches in Austin for the America Prays Pastors and Leaders Conference. The primary purpose of the conference was to introduce a new strategy that is going to help churches reach many people for the Lord. The strategy of Bless Austin is actually a pilot program for us to engage in and help iron out the wrinkles so others can follow us. The concept is described very clearly in detail at the following website: BlessEveryHome.com
The goal is for followers of Jesus to sign up to become a light in their neighborhoods and do the following: pray for their neighbors, care for them, share Jesus with them, and help them become mature disciples of Jesus. I have already signed up and am praying for my neighbors. God is giving me opportunities to reach out to them as well. I am looking forward to sharing this new ministry with our church at Great Hills.
Can you imagine the cumulative impact we could make for the Kingdom of God if every follower of Jesus took this challenge to be, as our biblical text for today states, a light to the Gentiles and for salvation for the world? I get excited thinking about the possibilities. Many dedicated and gifted Christians have collaborated to bring this tool to the church. Mart Green, chairman of Hobby Lobby, has been a big supporter, as well as Scott Beck the co-founder and CEO of Gloo, a software company that provides churches with data to better understand their demographics.
Great Hills Baptist Church will host the next America Prays conference on September 16, 2021.
Craig Groeschel, Senior Pastor of Life Church, is scheduled to be there, as well as Mart Green. We are looking forward to hosting this great event. It is pretty cool to be a part of a ministry and movement that we feel will be embraced by cities all over the USA. It was not hard for me to join in, and here is why: whenever a ministry has as its focus prayer and evangelism, I am in!
As followers of Jesus, we are to be salt and light. Let us live up to our Lord's call upon our lives and impact our culture with the best possible news that can be shared: Jesus saves!
